State Forestry Declares End To Fire Season

The Dalles Unit of the Oregon Department of Forestry has declared an end to fire season on all of the lands State Forestry protects in Wasco and Hood River counties.  Burn permits are still required year round for all burn barrels and debris piles.  A written burn plan is required for all slash piles.  If you live within a rural fire district, they must be contacted about their requirements.  Forestry officials ask everyone who plans to burn to do so safely, and in compliance with your burn permit or burn plan.  Brief warming and drying trends in the fall can cause a smoldering fire to reignite, or increase the intensity of your burn.

WS Council To Go Out For RFP On Park & Ride Location

The White Salmon City Council has decided to issue a request for proposals to lease a 2,500 square feet of property at the Park and Ride lot near the Hood River Interstate Bridge.  The City had received a $500 a month offer to lease the space for a recreational marijuana dispensary, but received testimony at a Wednesday night hearing from citizens questioning if that amount was a fair price.  Mayor David Poucher says an RFP process will enable a fair price to be established.  Some residents also questioned whether the state would pull funding from the Park and Ride if parking spaces are removed for the location of a building, but Poucher says they have never received a response from the state when the City notified them of the offer.  Poucher adds the Council does not have to grant a lease after the RFP process if it does not want to.
