Baseball The Dalles 4, Mountain View 1:  The Riverhawks moved their record back to the .500 mark with the win.  The Dalles scored three runs in the fourth inning to take control of the game, while limiting the Cougars to two hits.   Softball The Dalles 6, Mountain View 2:  The Riverhawks made the most of six hits to grab the victory.  The Dalles has won 11 of 14 games this season heading into Columbia River Conference play this weekend.

A 54-year-old man is in custody after robbing a bank in downtown The Dalles about one block from police headquarters.  The Dalles City Police reports indicate Dennis Spaulding was arrested and lodged at NORCOR shortly after 1 p.m. Monday.  The report indicated Spaulding told bank employees he had a gun, but no weapon was seen.  The report also says Spaulding left the bank westbound on West 4th Street, and he was quickly taken into custody.  Spaulding faces a second degree robbery charge, with bail set at $10,000.

Hood River County Commissioners will meet in executive session Tuesday to choose finalists to bring in for interviews for the County Administrator’s position.  Current administrator David Meriwether, who is retiring at the end of June, says a consulting firm has reduced the list to about a dozen for the Commission to consider.  Commissioners could choose any number of them to bring to Hood River for interviews.  There is no specific timeline to make a selection, but County Commissioners have wanted to get someone on board while Meriwether is still on the job to assist in the transition.

A business that considered expanding to The Dalles three years ago has the community back on its radar again.  Port of The Dalles Executive Director Andrea Klaas says she received a call from the company a month ago saying they were again interested in coming to the area.  Klaas says this experience is fairly common, with changes in personnel and situations in companies.  Klaas could not reveal much about the business itself, but did say it is a subsidiary of a large manufacturer, and could initially employ 35 to 40 people.

For the HRV boys Sebastian Barajas won the shot and discus, Justin Crosswhite took first in the 800 meters, Parker Irusta topped the long jump, and Parker Kennedy won the pole vault.  HRV’s girls were led by second place finishes from Audrey Marble, Katie Kennedy, and Kimberlee Boquist.   South Wasco tied Mac-Hi for the girls’ title at the River’s Edge Invitational in Umatilla.  Ana Popchock won the triple jump and long jump for the Redsides, while Brittney Orendorff of Sherman won the pole vault.  Sherman finished second in the boys’ competition to Elgin, as Isaiah Coles won the triple jump and the Husky four by 100 meter relay team was victorious.  South Wasco’s Ellis Rager won the shot put.   Sherman won the boys’ team standings at the Dick Horyna Invitational in Stanfield by a half-point over Griswold.  Maverick Winslow won the 100 and the pole vault for the Huskies.  The Sherman girls were fourth with Brittney Orendorff winning the pole vault.   Boys Lacrosse Hood River Valley 11, Aloha 8   Girls Lacrosse Hood River Valley 14, Liberty 3

Northern Wasco County People’s Utility District is planning a scheduled outage Sunday morning which will impact District customers in the Dufur, Tygh Valley and Wamic areas.  The planned outage is scheduled to occur at 6 a.m. and will last approximately five minutes.  This outage is in conjunction with the Bonneville Power Administration completing work on rebuilding the 69 kilovolt transmission line from Maupin to Tygh Valley, and to safely transfer electrical load between Northern Wasco County PUD’s Three Mile Substation and BPA’s Maupin Substation.

Maryhill Museum of Art has been awarded a $10,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to support programs that are part of this year’s Historic Columbia River Highway centennial celebrations.    Maryhill Museum of Art’s founder Sam Hill, along with engineer Sam Lancaster, convinced the Oregon Legislature to support construction of the highway, arguing that it would help the state “cash in year after year on its scenic beauty without depleting it in any way.”  To mark the centennial of this remarkable road and educate the public about Hill’s role in its development, Maryhill has planned numerous activities.           The exhibition Sam Hill and the Columbia River Highway, featuring early photos of the highway and its construction has been extended through 2016, and this fall the museum will present The Historic Columbia River Highway through the Eyes of Young Artists, featuring work by regional students.

The committee overseeing the state’s Seismic Rehabilitation Grant Program announced 41 schools to receive $50 million in grants, and the Hood River County School District made the cut.  The district will receive $898,400 dollars to retrofit the Hood River Middle School gymnasium.  Business Oregon, the state’s economic development agency, oversees the program to rehab schools and other critical public buildings so they will be better prepared to withstand a major earthquake.  The Oregon legislature allocated $175 million in funding for schools to the program for the 2015-17 biennium.  This was the first phase of that funding, awarding $50 million. The next phase for the remaining $125 million will be announced in 2017, with applications due this September.  The committee received 107 applications for this round of grants.
