Wasco County Public Works Director Arthur Smith gave County Commissioners on options to help maintain local access roads around the County. Wasco County has about 125 miles of these roads, which are open to the public but are not in any governmental agency road system, and many are in need of repair that property owners have a difficult time affording. Smith notes the County is not in a fiscal position to take over those roads and special road districts and local improvement districts are difficult to put together. Smith added Wasco County isn’t the only place in the state facing this problem. One option that might be affordable would be for the County to provide rock for these roads. The main road through Tygh Valley is a local access road that needs maintenance, and Commissioners did authorize Smith to do an assessment on what can be done there.
