Amendment In Washington House Budget For School District Help

An amendment in the Washington House budget would provide some short-term relief to school districts hurt by the K-12 funding model changes due to the McCleary decision.  14th District Representative Chris Corry says the amendment is designed to “hold harmless” districts who face financial struggles as a result of the changes.  The state budget is currently the subject of negotiations between the Senate and the House, with Democrats holding the majority in both chambers.  Corry. a Republican, adds he is not among those calling for lift of the levy lid for schools, fearing another McCleary lawsuit and increasing the gap between property-rich and property-poor districts.
