NORCOR Budget Calls For County Increases

Hood River, Wasco, Sherman, and Gilliam counties are being asked to make substantial increases to their contributions to the Northern Oregon Regional Correctional Facilty budget.  All of the counties are being asked for a 16% increase.  Wasco County Commissioner Kathy Schwartz represents her county on the NORCOR board, and she says along with the question of whether the counties can afford it, they need to determine whether it is really necessary.  There is a proposal to create a fund to handle structural and mechanical areas of the jail nearing the end of their expected lifespan 20 years after the facility was constructed.  Wasco County Commissioners will discuss the NORCOR budget document at their worksession Wednesday at 9 a.m. in the County Courthouse Deschutes Room, and the NORCOR budget committee meets on April 18 at 10 a.m. in the facility’s juvenile detention meeting room.
