Officials are issuing a reminder that Oregon drivers’ licenses are non-real ID compliant, so starting in October of 2020 anyone possessing an Oregon drivers’ license will not be able to board a plane without a passport or passport card. The Transportation Security Administration will require a Real-ID compliant form of identification to board a commercial aircraft starting on October 1, 2020, and state officials are working with the Port of Portland, other Oregon airports, airlines, TSA and others to provide information to air travelers about their option to obtain a U.S. passport or passport card before then. The information campaign will begin this fall and continue for at least a year. Kim Kean from the Hood River County Department of Records and Assessment says passport books are $110 each for adults and $80 for kids, while a passport card is $30 for adults and $15 for kids, the difference being the card is not valid for flying internationally. Normal processing takes 4 to 6 weeks, but Kean noted processing time could increase as demand increases.
