Yakima Man Faces Charges After High Speed Accident

A 27-year-old motorcyclist from Yakima faces several charges after he was severely injured in an accident that occurred while he was eluding police officers at high rate of speed on Interstate 84 between Hood River and The Dalles.  According to the Oregon State Police, Kenneth Maravelias has been cited to appear in Wasco County Circuit Court on charges that include felony attempt to elude on a vehicle, reckless driving, no valid operators’ license, and other traffic violations.  Maravelias was taken by LifeFlight to Portland’s Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland with serious non life-threatening injuries after the Sunday afternoon accident in which the motorcycle Maravelias was on left the eastbound freeway coming out of a sharp left hand curve near milepost 76 west of the Rowena interchange and collided head-on with a tree.  The OSP says a trooper had tried to stop a motorcyclist doing 110 miles per hour on I-84 just west of Mosier minutes before the accident.
