The Dalles Police Chief Tom Worthy gave a report to City Councilors on the development of its policy for department use of a drone, saying the draft is sound and ready for adoption coming off a recent community forum. Worthy noted the policy is specific about what the drone can be used for: when there is a warrant, probable cause, flying over property with consent, search and rescue, imminent threat to life and safety, or a Governor’s declaration of disaster. Worthy pointed out the policy does not allow facial recognition via the drone, and it can never be weaponized. He added the policy can also be modified in the future if that is found to be necessary.
