Wasco County Commissioners will hold a public hearing on a draft ordinance to impose a one-year moratorium on medical marijuana dispensaries at a meeting on April 29. County Commission Chair Scott Hege says Commissioners do have some questions surrounding the dispensaries allowed by state law passed last year, including whether it is even realistic that a dispensary would locate on County lands around The Dalles. However, there are some areas in the south part of the county where a dispensary could be located. The Oregon Legislature allowed cities and counties to adopt temporary moratoriums for one year as long as they do so by May 1. The City of The Dalles made such a move earlier this week, Hood River County will consider one next week, while Hood River City Councilors elected not to enact a moratorium.
