Wasco Commissioners Won’t Pursue Noise Ordinance

Wasco County Commissioners have decided not to pursue a specific noise ordinance, but instead will wait to see what the County Planning Department brings back proposed regulations to deal with what are defined as social gatherings.  Those are a step below large outdoor mass gatherings that are governed by the state.  Commissioner Scott Hege says they are fairly close to finalizing those proposals.  Discussion of a noise ordinance arose with the beginning of a pair of music festivals in rural areas of Wasco County, and was the subject of a lengthy County Commission worksession on Wednesday.  Hege noted establishing a noise ordinance could create unintended consequences, and there were questions around the capability to enforce it.
