Wasco County Commissioners directed planning staff to make non-substantive edits to proposed revisions to the County’s code compliance ordinance, remove any items that are optional under state law, and bring it back to them for hearings.  The County has been looking to streamline the ordinance to deal with some long-running public nuisance cases…but faced backlash at a hearing one month ago as some citizens felt that as written the ordinance could infringe on standard ways of life in rural areas.  Commissioner Scott Hege showed a picture at Wednesday’s meeting of a property littered with old motor homes and debris as an example of what they want to clean up.  Hege and Phil Brady voted for the direction given to staff, which will extend the process to the end of the year.  Steve Kramer voted against it, preferring to stick with the current draft while removing optional additions, saying this pushes out dealing with the most egregious situations for another year.
