The Oregon Trucking Association is going to hand out free boxed lunches and bottles of water Thursday at the Cascade Locks Point of Entry off eastbound Interstate 84 to truckers traveling through the area. The OTA gave lunches to 400 truck drivers at the Woodburn Point of Entry last week, and is repeating the event at Cascade Locks. Truckers will also be offered a free face mask. OTA representatives say while freight volumes have recently fallen below pre-crisis levels, the market and the environment that truck drivers operate in have yet to normalize. Guidelines and restrictions driven by the COVID-19 outbreak are still creating challenges for truck drivers who deliver food and other consumer goods. The OTA is taking donations for its Driver Appreciation Fund to subsidize additional events along some of the state’s main freight routes. Those who wish to donate can do so online at ortrucking.org.
