The Dalles City Council Approves Housing Needs Assessment

The Dalles City Council approved a new Housing and Residential Land Needs Assessment and associated amendments to the municipal comprehensive land use plan goal in relation to housing.  But it was not an enthusiastic approval for many Councilors, expressing doubts about a low population growth projection from Portland State University and fears it will be another impediment to getting a long-desired expansion of the City’s urban growth boundary.  Councilor Dan Richardson noted in many ways their hands are tied by Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development guidelines to develop this report, and plans to develop a 2024 housing production strategy could be more useful.  The needs assessment indicated the City will need about 500 new housing units to keep pace over the next 20 years.
