The Skamania County Sheriff’s Office says a human skull was found near the Sawtooth Berry Fields within the Gifford Pinchot National Forest.  The Sheriff’s Office says a bear hunter contacted emergency dispatchers last Wednesday and said they had found the skull.  A Sheriff’s detective responded to the coordinates the hunter provided and successfully discovered the skull, which was determined to be of human origin.  The Sheriff’s Office says the identity of the remains is unknown and the case is under active investigation at this time.  The skull will be sent for forensic analysis in an attempt to make positive identification.  The Sheriff’s Office added there are no indicators to believe there is a public safety risk based on the circumstances of the discovery.
