Senators Want To Name VA Clinic After Kaufman

Oregon Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley introduced legislation Monday to name the Department of Veterans Affairs community based outpatient clinic in The Dalles after Loren R. Kaufman. Kaufman, who grew up in The Dalles, volunteered for the U.S. Army at age 18, a week after Pearl Harbor.   He served in North Africa and Europe during World War II.   Kaufman earned the Medal of Honor in 1950 for action in the Korean War.   He was killed in action in 1951 and is buried at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.  Both Wyden and Merkley say they can think of nothing more fitting than to name the a facility that serves our veterans afer Kaufman.  When the bill passes, the facility at 704 Veterans Drive in The Dalles would be known as the Loren R. Kaufman Memorial Veterans’ Clinic.
