The Dufur City Council on Tuesday night approved modifying its nuisance ordinance and dropping a provision that prohibited roosters within city limits. The modification appears to bring an end to the saga surrounding Dallas the Rooster, the pet belonging to five-year-old Ayla Macnab. A neighbor had filed a complaint with the City about noise from the rooster in early February, but after a hearing in which a large number of local residents appeared in support of the girl and the bird, Mayor Arthur Smith issued a stay until the Council could address the ordinance. The ordinance modification allows the rooster to stay. On a Facebook page established by Macnab’s parents called “Saving Dallas the Rooster,” a post from late last night says “Dallas stays!”
