The American Red Cross is recruiting volunteers in the Columbia Gorge.  They are looking specifically for people to teach First Aid and CPR classes in both Hood River and The Dalles, but Jessica Chapman of the Red Cross Cascades Region says there are other needs in health and safety.  Of course, there are also needs for disaster response volunteers, who help during times of crisis ranging from house fires to major natural disasters like the landslide in Snohomish County.  Information on volunteering is available at redcross.org.  A Red Cross volunteer open house is planned for next Friday, April 11, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the organization’s office on 507 West 9th in The Dalles.
