The Port of Hood River Commission has approved a purchase agreement to buy the nine-acre lower Hanel mill site off Highway 35 near Odell from Hanel Development Group. Port Executive Director Michael McElwee says there is a five month due diligence process, and if that goes well the sale will go forward with a purchase price of $850,000. McElwee says the Port is already speaking with three businesses, two of them local, that have expressed interest in the property. He says the Port is acting as a facilitator to prepare the lots for development over the next three to five years. The due diligence process will include some environmental analysis, evaluation of utility capacity, and the potential subdivision options for legal lots.
