Newton Tells HR School Board RIF’s Avoided For Classified & Licensed Staff

Hood River County School District Superintendent Bill Newton told the district board that they are able to avoid a reduction in force for classified and licensed staff for the 2024-25 school year.  Newton told the board during his regular update at Wednesday’s meeting that the 2024-25 budget remains fluid as the district budget committee gets ready to meet Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Hood River Valley High School library.  Newton had indicated last week that attrition would allow them to adjust staff size, but some transferring of personnel could occur.  In other business, Newton said interim Hood River Valley High School athletic director Sean Mailey had been hired for the permanent position, and interviews were taking place this week for principal positions at Hood River Options Academy and May Street Elementary School.
