Washington High School Track and Field Championships at Eastern Washington University
Columbia finished fifth in the Class 1A girls standings. The Bruins’ Hannah Polkinghorn was second in the 200 meters and Jessica Polkinghorn second in the shot put, while the CHS’ girls 4 by 100 meter relay team finished second and the 4 by 400 meter relay team was third.
Goldendale was ninth in Class 2B boys, led by Alden Williams, who followed up a second place finish on Thursday in the 1600 meters with a victory in the 800 meters. Williams ran the 800 in 2:00.21. The Timberwolves’ Stephen Pittman was fifth in the pole vault. Stevenson’s Hudson Holzauer was fifth in the discus.
Stevenson finished ninth in Class 2B girls, as Olivia Fauth took the 400 meter title in 1:01.67. Teammate Ramy Nielson was fourth in that race, while Sydney Cole in the pole vault and the Bulldog 4 by 200 meter relay team had fifth place finishes.
Washington Class 1B/2B Tennis Tournament at Yakima.
Isabella and Sofia Spencer of Stevenson won three straight matches to claim the girls’ doubles championship. The Spencers began with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Amy Anderson and Alexis Melcher of Lind-Ritzville/Sprague, then followed in the semi-final by topping Taylor Beam and Gwen Gilliam of Goldendale 6-0, 6-3. In the championship match, the Stevenson pair again won in straight sets, defeating Jasslyn Ramos and Eliana Rios of Granger 6-2, 6-1. Beam and Gilliam bounced back from their semi-final loss to finish third, ending with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Natalie George and Ariel Brashear of Jenkins (Chewelah).
Samia Rudd of Stevenson won one of three matches in girls’ singles, as did Eli Golding and Kyden Blunt of Goldendale in boys’ doubles.
Oregon Class 5A Softball Quarter-Final
Pendleton 10, The Dalles 0: Sauren Garton pitched a one-hitter with 16 strikeouts. Melanie Boatman and Daisy Jenness hit RBI triples to give Pendleton a 2-0 lead after two innings. Brie Youncs hit a two-run single to make it 4-0 in the third inning and Jenness added a two-run single in a four-run fifth inning.
Oregon Class 2A/1A Baseball Quarter-Final
Dufur 10, Neah-Kah-Nie 0: Isaac Anthony struck out 14 and gave up just one hit in the five-inning game, and also hit a grand slam in the second inning deep over the wall in left. Joey Holloway, Olsen Meanus and August Harvey each had two hits for the Rangers. Dufur visits Umpqua Valley Christian for a semi-final game on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
