Track and Field Oregon Class 1A Championships at Hayward Field Ellis Rager of South Wasco and Keith Blake of Dufur finished one-two in the boys’ shot put to highlight the Mid-Columbia effort in day one of the meet in Eugene.  Rager won the event with a toss of 47 feet, three inches.  There were four third place finishes from area athletes:  Jony Nelson of Horizon Christian in the 3,000 meters, Sherman’s Maverick Winslow in the boys’ pole vault and Isaiah Coles in the boys’ long jump, and Paulina Finn of Horizon Christian in the girls’ high jump.  Most event finals are today.   Southwest Washington Class 1A District Championships at Tumwater The Columbia girls tied for fourth and the boys tied for sixth, while Stevenson finished 11th in both.  Two individual event winners from the area, as Alondra Casarez-Garcia of Columbia won the girls’ 100 meter hurdles, and Luke Nichols of Stevenson won the boys’ pole vault.   Tennis Oregon Class 5A Girls Tennis Tournament at the Portland Tennis Center Johanna Wilson and Kiana Pielli of The Dalles won their first round match, topping Ellie Cross and Nithya Vaikuntam of Marist 6-2, 6-3.  The Riverhawk duo will face a pair from Crescent Valley in the quarterfinals today.   Girls Lacrosse Oregon State Playoffs Navy Bracket Hood River Valley 9, Sherwood 8:  Abby Bortles scored four goals as the Eagles advance to play Lincoln on Monday at 8 p.m. at Wilsonville in the bracket semi-finals.   Hood River Valley High School has named new varsity basketball coaches.  Former Eagle Christopher Dirks will become the boys’ head coach after serving as freshman coach last year, while current track and field head coach Donnie Herneisen takes over the lead of the girls’ basketball program.
