A 24-year-old man from Medford was taken by LifeFlight to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after a one-vehicle accident Sunday night on Highway 97 north of Goldendale. According to the Washington State Patrol, the four-wheel drive vehicle operated by Juan Garcia Birrueta was southbound on Highway 97 at milepost 21 just before 9 p.m. on Sunday when the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve to the left. The WSP says the vehicle went off an embankment and became airborne for about 100 feet before landing and rolling once. Garcia Birrueta was the only person in the vehicle. The WSP says he is being charged with driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license.
