Hood River County is accepting applications for the currently vacant District 4 seat on the County Commission. Commissioners decided to expedite the process to make a selection by April 15 to fill out the remaining nine months of the term of Les Perkins, who stepped down in February to take a seat on the Oregon Public Utility Commission. There was some discussion of waiting until the results of the May 21 primary election that has three candidates for the position to see if someone gets a majority to avoid a run-off in November. But Commissioner Arthur Babitz pointed out District 4 residents should have representation on the panel as soon as possible. District 4 represents the Upper Hood River Valley and the Cascade Locks area.
