Hazmat Crew Deals With Chemical Spill In Truck

A hazardous materials crew was in White Salmon Monday to deal with a spill of at least one gallon of muriatic acid leaking inside a closed box truck in the area of Church Street.  According to Klickitat County Emergency Management Director Ed Powell, the truck driver contacted the White Salmon Fire Department for help when he suspected the spill just before 9 a.m.  The driver of the Tualatin-based pool and spa truck was taken to Skyline Hospital and is being treated for inhalation of the hazardous chemical.  White Salmon, Bingen, and Klickitat County emergency responders are keeping the area around the vehicle closed until the spill is cleaned up, but Powell reports there is no danger to neighboring residences or businesses.
