Downtown The Dalles merchants have reported a good holiday season, but it’s been a fairly slow January.  The Dalles Area Chamber of Commerce CEO Lisa Farquharson says her organization pushed a “shop local” campaign during the holidays, and will be trying to continue that in the first month of the year.  Farquharson says they will be looking at simple campaigns for the winter, including helping businesses to package specials to encourage foot traffic into stores.  Farquharson adds business traditionally begins to pick back up during the spring vacation period when tourist traffic increases.
