Fish Cam Installed At Eagle Creek

Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area Fisheries personnel have placed an underwater webcam in a pool of Eagle Creek where Chinook salmon are gathering prior to spawning.  While Chinook salmon are present now, later in the autumn viewers will also observe Coho salmon.  Scenic Area lead biologist Brett Carre worked with the Portland Zoo and Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife to get the cam operational.  In addition to streaming on YouTube, the video streams to the Portland Zoo where it can be viewed in the otter observation tunnel.  Chinook and Coho salmon lay their eggs in the gravels of Eagle Creek.  The offspring salmon eventually migrate back to the ocean where they grow to adults and eventually return to freshwater to spawn.
