The North Wasco County School District 21 Board has decided not to hire one of the three finalists for the Superintendent’s position it interviewed in mid-March, deciding instead to choose from its current administrators to fill the role on an interim basis in 2020-21 and resume the external search next year. In a statement, board chair John Nelson indicated the three finalists were highly qualified and well-positioned to step into this type of role, but the board did not feel they were a fit for the district and its needs. A formal application process is underway to find an interim superintendent from the current ranks of D-21 administrators. The board suspended the search for a permanent replacement at this time, with the intent to reopen it next year. Current Superintendent Candy Armstrong retires at the end of the year.
