The Civil Air Patrol’s Gorge Composite Squadron will host an open house on Saturday morning at the Ken Jernstedt Airfield in Hood River. This is an opportunity for the public to learn more about exciting opportunities to serve the community in emergency services, aerospace education, and cadet programs. Members will be on hand to answer questions about joining Civil Air Patrol as a cadet between the ages of 12 and 18 or as an adult member. Also, schedule to be on display is one of the Oregon Wing’s aircraft – a Cessna Model T206H, featuring a Garmin 1000NXI ‘glass cockpit’ avionics suite. Founded in 1941 and established as the official civilian auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force seven years later, Civil Air Patrol is chartered by Congress as a nonprofit organization for the purposes of youth development, aerospace education, and to promote general aviation. In an auxiliary role as a Total Force partner of the Air Force, the patrol operates the world’s largest fleet of single-engine aircraft for search and rescue, disaster relief, training, and education.
