Washingtion EFSEC Holds Meeting On Carriger Project Tuesday

The Washington State Energy Facility Site Evaluation Council will hold a meeting in Goldendale Tuesday on the Carriger Solar Project.  Cyprus Creek Renewables’ proposed 160-megawatt solar generation facility in an unincorporated area west and northwest of Goldendale has been the subject of controversy, with a number of nearby residents opposing it.  The company applied directly through the state rather than to Klickitat County, which recently imposed a moratorium on solar projects to develop more specific rules to govern them.  County Commissioner Jacob Anderson says it’s important for citizens to make their voice heard.  EFSEC will hold an open house tomorrow at 4:30 at the Goldendale Grange Hall, followed by an informational public meeting from 5:30 to 7 that will include what is termed as limited minutes for the public to provide comment, which can also be offered in written form.  The meeting will also be offered virtually through Microsoft Teams, with log-in information available at efsec.wa.gov.

White Salmon Residents Asked To Conserve Water For Repair Work

White Salmon residents are being asked to conserve water next week while a key repair is made.  The City says a critical emergency repair is being made at the municipal well field that involves a complete pump replacement.  The work will require City public works crews to fully bypass pulling supplies of water from those associated sources.  As a result, White Salmon residents are being asked to conserve water use starting on Monday and continuing through Friday to minimize the impact of the reduced water supply during this repair.  Those with questions can call White Salmon Public Works Director Andrew Dirks at 509-493-1133, extension 500.

Klickitat County UAS Team Completes First Mission

Klickitat County’s new All-Hazards Small Unmanned Aerial Systems Team had its first mission on Wednesday, successfully finding a missing person somewhere near the Leidl Campground off the Glenwood Highway.  According to the County’s Emergency Management Department, the team used two aircraft for a total of about six combined hours of flight time.  The missing person was located alive by the team late Wednesday afternoon, providing Search and Rescue teams with the person’s exact location.  The team then watched over as the rescue team located, evaluated, and prepared the person for transport.  The found missing person was evaluated and then evacuated by Search and Rescue and Klickitat County Emergency Medical Services personnel to an awaiting ambulance.  The person was then transferred to an awaiting nearby Lifeflight Helicopter for transport to the hospital.  Since November of 2022, the all-volunteer, grant funded 12 person team was formed and began training on the equipment, policies, and procedures to support all other Klickitat County Emergency Responder Agencies.

Skamania County K9 Tracks Two Suspects

In just over 24 hours, Skamania County Sheriff’s Office K9 Remi and his handler, Deputy Will Helton, assisted this week in capturing two separate suspects.  The Skamania County Sheriff’s Office says on Monday, Helton and Remi were requested to respond to a residence in Hood River for assistance in apprehending a burglary suspect.  During their response, Remi was utilized to assist in the capture of the 27-year-old suspect.  Then on Tuesday, a Washougal resident reported a burglary in progress in Skamania County.  After tracking the suspect for nearly an hour, K9 Remi located and captured a suspect that was later transported to the Skamania County Correctional Facility and booked on numerous felony charges.

Harris Medical Assistants’ Bill Signed By Inslee

Washington state medical assistants’ duties and responsibilities have officially expanded after the governor signed into law a bill from 17th District Rep. Paul Harris on Thursday.  House Bill 1073 does several things, including extending the expiration of a certified medical assistant interim permit to the issuance of a certified medical assistant certification.  The policy also allows an individual who has applied for a medical assistant-phlebotomist credential, and has completed the training program, to work under the level of supervision required for the training program, up to 180 days after filing their application.  Under HB 1073, a certified medical assistant can also establish intravenous lines under the supervision of a health care practitioner if certain minimum standards are met.  It also authorizes registered medical assistant to prepare patients for, and assist with, examinations, procedures, treatments, and minor office surgeries that use minimal sedation. Additionally, physician assistants can now complete certain tasks without direct visual supervision.  The bill contains an emergency clause, which means it takes effect immediately.

Waters Bill Allowing Underage Workers In Certain Situations Signed

Governor Jay Inslee signed into law a bill from Washington 17th District Rep. Kevin Waters on Thursday that will give many of the state’s smaller businesses a boost in their hiring efforts.  House Bill 1730, which is the freshman lawmaker’s first piece of legislation, will improve the state’s workforce by opening up certain job positions to a larger group of applicants.  The legislation allows young adults between the ages of 18 to 21 to be employed in establishments traditionally classified as off-limits to persons under the age of 21, under specific and limited circumstances.  Because HB 1730 contains an emergency clause it takes effect immediately.  Under the law, it is now legal for anyone at least 18-years-old to perform services unrelated to the sale or service of alcohol to enter and remain on premises, but only to carry out the duties of their employment as a dishwasher, cook, chef, sanitation specialist, or other kitchen staff and only under certain conditions.
