Aluminum Man Triathlon
Hood River’s Patrick Hiller and Portland’s Nancy Nichols were the winners of the Olympic Triathlon of the Aluminum Man Triathlon in The Dalles over the weekend. Hiller completed the swim, bike ride, and run in 2:16:21 to take the men’s division by 56 seconds over Jason Whitley of The Dalles, while Dan Silvernail of West Linn finished third. In the women’s race, Nichols finished with a time of 2:36:17, 36 seconds ahead of Trisha Kepple of Boise, followed by Dara Ono of Portland. In the Sprint Triathlon, Nils Engberson of Hood River won the men’s division and Leanne Neal of Dufur was first among the women. Jesse Haas of Portland and Heather Leach of Seattle topped the Olympic Duathlon.

Cross Country
Both the Hood River Valley boys and girls varsity teams finished second at the Runner’s Soul Cross Country Festival in Hermiston. The Dalles girls were fourth and the boys sixth. Hermiston won the boys’ competition while Oregon City topped the girls. Top individual finishers from the area included HRV’s Justin Crosswhite in third and Jory Nelson of The Dalles sixth among the boys, and The Dalles’ Emily Morin was fourth in the girls’ race while Hood River’s Lauren Robinson was ninth.
