THE DALLES, Ore. (AP) — Authorities say one person was critically injured after a classic car driver accelerated quickly in The Dalles, flipped over and struck several people who were watching nearby. According to The Dalles Police Department, police responded to the incident around 10 p.m. Saturday. Investigators say the driver of a 1955 Chevy Bel-Air, Ronald Madorin, rapidly accelerated from a stop light after the light turned green. Police say the Chevy Bel-Air flipped over, struck a parked vehicle and injured people who were watching the classic car cruise. One person suffered critical injuries and was taken to the hospital. The Chevy Bel-Air burst into flames after the crash. Madorin suffered minor injuries. After his release from Mid-Columbia Medical Center, Madorin was arrested on charges of second-degree assault. Other charges may be filed later. Police do not think alcohol was a factor.
Madorin is scheduled to appear in Wasco County Circuit Court this afternoon at 1:15. His current bail is set at $100,000.
