The North Wasco County School District 21 board has approved the recommendation of its High School Mascot Committee, adopting Riverhawks as the mascot for The Dalles High School beginning in 2014-15. Committee facilitator Trudy Townsend said Riverhawks came out on top with most groups who gave their opinion on five finalists. The committee made up of middle and high school student and faculty representatives went through a lengthy process in picking the new mascot, analyzing uniqueness, inspiration of school spirit, cost factors, how reflective it is of the community, and appeal. The school will finish this academic year as the Eagle-Indians, before putting the Riverhawks name to use next year.
