The Hood River County School District Board of Directors has selected two finalists for its Superintendent position, including Bill Newton, who is currently filling the seat on an interim basis. Newton stepped into the role this past summer when Rich Polkinghorn resigned to become Superintendent of the White Salmon Valley School District. Prior to that, he had been the district’s executive director of curriculum and instruction since 2020. The other finalist is Meagan Dawson, who has been the principal of Kulshan Middle School in Bellingham since 2015. The district will hold a candidate forum on April 4 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Hood River Valley High School’s Bowe Theatre.
