The Dalles City Council held a worksession Monday evening on proposed amendments to the City’s Land Use and Development Ordinance in preparation for an anticipated public hearing on October 28. Community Development Director Steve Harris says the changes range from technical in nature to using common sense, and some are to meet state requirements. Planning staff has recommended deferring action on the affordable housing section until a guide that is referred to in the amendments can be drafted. The plan is to bring the affordable housing ordinance changes and the guide at one time in order for them to be evaluated together. Harris noted The Dalles is seeing only about a half of the homes constructed each year that would be necessary to meet demand.
