Man Dies In Accident East Of Mitchell

A man died in a single vehicle motor vehicle accident on Highway 26 east of Mitchell on Saturday afternoon.  According to the Oregon State Police, the pickup truck driven by 36-year-old Drew Knowles of Mt. Vernon was eastbound on Highway 26 when for unknown reasons he left the roadway and traveled off a steep embankment.  The OSP says Knowles sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.  Westbound Highway 26 was closed for several hours after the crash.  OSP troopers and other emergency medical personnel were called to the scene at about 1:50 p.m. on Saturday.
