Track and Field Hood River Valley won both the boys and girls titles at the Columbia River Conference championships in The Dalles, earning 14 boys and nine girls entries at this coming weekend’s Oregon Class 5-A Championships in Eugene.  Sebastian Barajas, Justin Crosswhite, Parker Kennedy, and Parker Irusta won two events each for the HRV boys, with Tyrone Stintzi and Mason McDowell also grabbing first place finishes.  Jestena Mattson won three events for the HRV girls while Emily Viuhkola added a pair, with the Eagles also getting a win from the four by 400 meter relay team.  The Dalles girls finished third and the boys were fourth.  Yasmin Hill won two events and Katie Conklin one for the Rivehawk girls, who grabbed six state meet berths.  The Dalles’ Sant Strassheim won the boys’ 300 meter hurdles and finished second in the 110 hurdles to qualify for state in both.   Columbia won the girls’ title at the Trico League Championships in Stevenson.  Lauren Thiesies, Stacia Bell, Haley Bell, Aidan Liddiard , and the four by 100 and four by 200 meter relay teams grabbed first place finishes for the Bruins.  Stevenson finished fifth, thanks in large part to three first place finishes for Madison McCrum.  LaCenter won the boys’ title with Columbia second and Stevenson third.  Shawn Tardiff and four by 400 meter relay team scored wins for CHS, while Raymond Hernandez had two first place finishes and Brandon Campbell one for Stevenson.   Lyle-Wishram was the boys’ winner and Bickleton the girls’ victor in the Greater Columbia League Championships.  Gabe Montoya won three events for the Lyle-Wishram boys, while Bickleton’s Lindsay Brown won three in the girls’ competition.   Horizon Christian won the boys’ title while Griswold nipped Horizon by two points to win the girls’ championship at the Big Sky Conference meet in Moro.  Top individual efforts included Sherman’s Isaiah Coles winning three boys’ events and Taylor Darden of Dufur winning two girls’ events.   Baseball Hood River Valley 5, The Dalles 3:  Ryan Ward struck out 14 in five innings to lead the Eagles to the win, as the Riverhawks were eliminated from post-season consideration.   Sherman swept Dufur, winning both games by 5-3 scores.   Softball The Dalles 9, Hood River Valley 6:  Grace Helyer’s three-run homer in the seventh inning lifted the Riverhawks to the win in the regular season finale for both teams.  The Dalles will host a Class 5-A play-in game later this week, while Hood River Valley will be on the road.   LaCenter 7, Stevenson 1   Tennis The Dalles finished in a tie for second with Summit at the Class 5-A Special District 1 Tournament, as Bend won the team title.  The Riverhawks’ Marisa Cianci advances to the state tournament in Portland this coming weekend with a second place finish in singles, while Johanna Wilson and Anna Miller are also headed to state after a second place finish in doubles.   Hood River Valley’s Scottie Ziegner is headed to state after helping HRV to a third place finish in the boys’ Special District 1 tournament.  Ziegner finished third in boys’ singles.
